In the second quarter of 2024 the gross domestic product was $458B MX, 6.25% more than the previous quarter.

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, total gross production was $624B MX. The states with the highest total gross production were Ciudad de México ($491B MX) and Jalisco ($29.2B MX).

For its part, total income reached $637B MX in 2019, being the states with the highest income Ciudad de México ($502B MX) and Jalisco ($27.2B MX).

Economic activities are related if they require similar knowledge or inputs. In 2014 in Information the states with the highest affinity were Baja California Sur (0.89), Sinaloa (0.88), Chihuahua (0.83), San Luis Potosí (0.82), and Sonora (0.82).

According to data from the Economic Census 2019,  8,828 economic units were totaled in Information, highlighting Ciudad de México (1,168), Estado de México (752), and Jalisco (542).

Total gross production was $624B MX. The states with the highest total gross production were Ciudad de México ($491B MX) and Jalisco ($29.2B MX).

Total income reached $637B MX in 2019, being the states with the highest income Ciudad de México ($502B MX) and Jalisco ($27.2B MX).

Also, $621B MX in total income were registered and the municipalities with the highest income were Miguel Hidalgo ($270B MX), Cuauhtémoc ($104B MX), and Álvaro Obregón ($35.7B MX).

Total expenditure registered in 2019 was $477B MX and the municipalities with the highest expenditure were Miguel Hidalgo ($261B MX), Cuauhtémoc ($46.9B MX), and Cuajimalpa de Morelos ($39.8B MX).

As of May 2021, the states with the highest degree of specialization in Information were Sonora (1.53), Coahuila de Zaragoza (1.36), and Nuevo León (1.34). The degree of specialization is measured using the RCA index, which represents the ratio between the observed and expected establishments of each state for each industry.

The states with the highest degree of development opportunity in Information according to Relatedness were Aguascalientes (0.64), Nayarit (0.6), and Jalisco (0.56). The Relatedness measures the distance between an industry and the current industrial composition in each state. The presented entities register a level of specialization lower than one unit (RCA <1).

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the distribution of economic units according to size that had access to financing was 10.8% units with up to 10 people, 23.7% units with 11 to 50 people, 57.5% units with 51 to 250 people, and 32.5% units with 251 and more people.

According to the age of the economic units, the distribution of those that obtained financing was 14.9% of the recently created (up to 2 years) units, 15.3% of the youth (3 to 5 years) units, 18.8% of the adults (6 to 10 years) units, and 18.4% of the seniors (over 10 years) units.

The states with the highest percentage of economic units that received financing were Michoacán de Ocampo (23.1%), Ciudad de México (22.6%), Aguascalientes (22.4%), Nuevo León (21.6%), and Quintana Roo (21.5%).

According to the size of the company, the economic units of 251 and more people that use the internet in banking and financial operations (95.8%) stand out in percentage terms.

According to data from the 2019 Economic Census, internet sales reached $141B MX and purchases were $25.6B MX. On the other hand, sales made in monetary transactions were $620B MX and purchases reached $428B MX.

Problems faced by economic units

The chart shows the main problems faced by economic units. With the upper selector it is possible to analyze the problems affecting companies according to their size. By default, the problems of economic units with up to 10 people are shown.

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the main problems faced by the economic units of Information with up to 10 workers are public insecurity (27.2%), another problems (16.3%), high taxes (13.4%), and low demand for goods or services (12.5%).

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the distribution of economic units that had an accounting system  was 67.6% units with up to 10 people, 91.8% units with 11 to 50 people, 97.9% units with 51 to 250 people, and 97.6% units with 251 and more people.

The states with the highest percentage of economic units that had an accounting system were Ciudad de México (87.6%), Tamaulipas (86%), Chihuahua (85.1%), Aguascalientes (84.7%), and Nuevo León (84.1%).

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the main expenses and income control mechanisms were external accounting system (47.9%) in companies with up to 10 people, internally developed accounting system (50.8%) in companies with 11 to 50 people, internally developed accounting system (79.4%) in companies with 51 to 250 people, and internally developed accounting system (75.6%) in companies with 251 and more people.

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the states with the highest income from the supply of goods and services were list Ciudad de México ($490B MX),Jalisco ($26.7B MX),Nuevo León ($23.9B MX),Estado de México ($11.5B MX),Tamaulipas ($7.83B MX).

In 2018, 1.06% of the large economic units complied with the environmental standard, 36.5% did not know if they complied with any environmental standard, and 62.4% did not comply with the environmental standard.

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the states with the highest percentage of large economic units that had staff in environmental protection activities were Tabasco (14.6%), Veracruz de Ignacio de la Llave (8.97%), Campeche (8.51%), Guerrero (5.41%), and Colima (5.26%).

Environmental Protection Processes

According to data from the 2019 Economic Census, 58.3% of the large economic units in the Information sector separated their waste, highlighting the separation of paper (96.5%), plastic (81.2%), and organic waste (69.3%).

On the other hand, 2.5% of the large economic units applied some treatment to the wastewater generated in their activity. The main uses of the treated water were discharge to the public network (2.16%), gardening and cleaning (0.23%), and cooling system (0.076%).

Expenditure and Investment in Environmental Protection

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, 3.75% of the large economic units in the Information sector made expenditures on environmental protection, highlighting expenditures in reduce waste generated in processes ($41.9M MX), reduce emissions to the atmosphere ($22.7M MX), and care and maintenance of the vehicle fleet ($20.8M MX).

On the other hand, 2.08% of the large economic units made investment in environmental protection. The main investments were in mitigate or reduce noise ($9.17M MX), decrease energy consumption ($8.64M MX), and care and maintenance of the vehicle fleet ($1.67M MX).

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the states with the highest percentage of large economic units with innovation activities in 2016, 2017 or 2018 were Aguascalientes (19%), Ciudad de México (14.6%), Baja California (12.2%), San Luis Potosí (11.3%), and Coahuila de Zaragoza (10.8%).

Innovation Activities in 2018

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, 7.35% of the large economic units of the private and parastatal sector of Information had innovation activities in 2018.

Of the total staff employed in large economic units, 5.34% was employed in product innovation activities, 2.02% in process innovation, 1.79% in market innovation, 2.1% in organizational innovation, and 1.65% in innovation for technological adaptation and documentation.

Qualified staff in Innovation Activities

The visualization shows the distribution of large economic units of the private and parastatal sector of Information that employed qualified staff in technological research and development activities in 2016, 2017 and 2018.

According to data from the Economic Census 2019, the lowercase Information Sector had 173 economic units that had qualified staff in technological research and development activities, 9 economic units had it for research and technological development in the field of Biotechnology and 13 economic units for research and technological development in Nanotechnology.

In the same year, 57 economic units had qualified personnel in the registration or processing of patents for brands, products or processes, and 28 economic units had this type of staff to contracts or acquisition of patents for brands, products or processes.
